Lumbar Posterior Discectomy

About Lumbar Posterior Discectomy

Lumbar Posterior Discectomy
Posterior lumbar discectomy is a minimally invasive procedure performed to remove a herniated or degenerative disc in the lower spine. The surgeon approaches the spine from the posterior, through the back muscles. The disc is accessed by removing a portion of the lamina, the bone that forms the backside of the spinal canal and makes a roof over the spinal cord. Next, the spinal nerve is retracted to one side. Depending on the severity of the problem, one disc or more may be removed.
