Attending physician office hours
This fellowship includes the participation in the care of patients in the private practice of the attending surgeons. Fellows will accompany the attending and directly participate in their office hours (2 days a week). The fellow will usually have the opportunity to evaluate each new patient, develop a treatment plan, and discuss these findings with their attending. Discrepant physical findings or teaching points will be reviewed in a joint patient exam and treatment plans discussed after each patient is evaluated. This experience also provides the opportunity to follow postoperative patients and surgical related complications to their fruition. The office environment affords the fellow a chance to interact in a real life manner with nursing staff, physician assistants, physical therapists, health care administrators, orthopedic residents, and non-operative physician consultants.
The shoulder and elbow experience is anticipated to be extensive with over 900 cases per year being performed. Approximately 80% of the cases are shoulder and 20% are elbow. Operative experience includes a high volume of primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty (over 250 arthroplasty cases are performed annually), advanced shoulder & elbow arthroscopy, open shoulder reconstruction, shoulder and elbow fracture management, elbow ligament repair/reconstruction, and elbow arthroplasty.
